Physician Assistants (PAs) are integral members of the health care team in many hospitals and clinical practices. Working in collaboration with a supervising licensed physician, PAs perform a comprehensive range of medical duties ranging from basic primary care to highest-technology specialty procedures. PAs can diagnose and treat medical conditions, prescribe medications and order medical tests. PAs take national certifying examinations administered by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants before starting practice. PAs practice in virtually all medical settings.
